First Aid At Work

First Aid at Work: The National Standard

When a medical emergency occurs in the workplace, having someone with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to take immediate action can make a life-changing difference. Whilst many organisations require basic first aid provision, some workplaces demand a more comprehensive level of training to reflect the risks associated with their environment.

The First Aid at Work (FAW) course is widely recognised as the national standard for comprehensive workplace first aid training. Designed for higher-risk workplaces and organisations requiring an advanced level of first aid provision, the course equips learners with the skills needed to respond confidently to a wide range of medical emergencies, injuries and illnesses.

More than simply meeting legal obligations, the First Aid at Work qualification helps organisations build a safer working environment, while giving individuals the confidence to act decisively when every second counts.

Comprehensive Skills for Real-Life Emergencies

The First Aid at Work course provides learners with a detailed understanding of emergency care and casualty management, combining theoretical knowledge with extensive practical training.

Throughout the course, learners develop the skills needed to assess emergency situations, prioritise treatment and provide immediate care until the emergency services arrive. Training covers essential life-saving interventions including CPR, safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), management of unconscious casualties, choking, severe bleeding, shock and seizures, alongside the treatment of fractures, burns, spinal injuries, head injuries, chest injuries, poisoning, major illnesses and a wide variety of workplace-related emergencies.

The course also explores the responsibilities of the workplace first aider, accident reporting, casualty assessment and the importance of responding safely within different working environments.

By covering a broad range of emergency scenarios, learners leave with the confidence to deal with incidents that extend far beyond the most common first aid situations.

Practical Training Builds Confidence

At First Aid Education, we firmly believe that first aid cannot be learned through theory alone.

Responding effectively during an emergency requires practical experience, clear decision-making and the confidence that comes from repeated hands-on practice.

Our First Aid at Work course has been carefully developed to provide an engaging and highly practical learning experience. Using realistic scenarios, professional training equipment and instructor-led demonstrations, learners are encouraged to practise every essential skill in a supportive environment.

Our experienced instructors create realistic situations that help learners develop not only technical competence but also the ability to remain calm and communicate effectively under pressure.

This practical approach helps ensure that when a genuine emergency occurs, our learners are prepared to respond with confidence rather than hesitation.

Why Choose First Aid Education?

At First Aid Education, we have invested significant time and expertise into developing a First Aid at Work course that goes beyond the minimum requirements of the national syllabus.

Whilst our course fully aligns with current UK legislation and the latest Resuscitation Council UK guidance, we continually review and enhance our programme to ensure learners receive the highest quality education possible.

Our syllabus combines evidence-based teaching, modern learning techniques and extensive practical training to maximise confidence, knowledge retention and real-world capability.

Every lesson, practical exercise and training resource has been carefully designed to create an engaging learning experience that prepares learners for genuine workplace emergencies.

We believe first aid training should inspire confidence rather than simply achieve compliance. By combining expert instruction, realistic practical scenarios and an unwavering commitment to educational excellence, our First Aid at Work course equips individuals with the skills they need to protect their colleagues, support their organisations and make a meaningful difference when it matters most.

Because comprehensive first aid training doesn’t just create qualified first aiders—it creates people who are ready to act when lives depend on them.
